Dimitris Agathopoulos

Visual Artist | New Media Researcher

I am an Athens-based visual artist and new media researcher, currently working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University. I studied Painting at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Department of Visual and Applied Arts) and completed my MA in Digital Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts, alongside holding a degree in Business Administration.

My practice connects painting and digital image-making with 3D modeling, experimental animation, XR, and artificial intelligence. I view these technologies as interconnected tools to experiment with space, digital aesthetics, and contemporary visual culture. My research focuses on how virtual environments, computational practices, and emerging technologies intersect with fine art.

Since 2019, I have been teaching 3D Design in the "Digital Arts" MA programme at the Athens School of Fine Arts. Between 2019 and 2025, I also taught digital media, 3D sculpting, and visual arts at the University of West Attica.

My work has been exhibited widely in Greece and internationally, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the Benaki Museum, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the XV Biennale de la Méditerranée (Thessaloniki – Rome), the ONED Art / Experimental Film Festival (Beijing – Toulouse), the "Beautiful Horizon wor(l)d AI" exhibition and public projections across Brazil, the Fonland Festival in Coimbra, Portugal, and the Artiade – Olympics of Art in New York, among others.
