Dimitris Agathopoulos

Visual Artist | New Media Researcher

Dimitris Agathopoulos is a visual artist and new media researcher based in Athens. He studied Painting at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed a postgraduate degree in Digital Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He also holds a degree in Business Administration from the Metropolitan College of Athens.

Alongside his artistic practice, he is actively engaged in teaching. He currently serves as a contractual academic fellow at the Department of Interior Architecture, School of Applied Arts and Culture, University of West Attica, and lectures in the postgraduate program Digital Arts at the Athens School of Fine Arts.

His work develops at the intersection of art, technology, and contemporary visual culture. His practice encompasses 3D sculpting and modeling, experimental animation across expanded and immersive media, AI-driven art, audiovisual storytelling, XR technologies (Augmented and Virtual Reality), VR cinema, Game Art, 3D scanning and photogrammetry, projection mapping, digital scenography, and painting. These media are approached not as tools, but as interconnected systems for spatial narration and world-building.

His research activity runs in parallel with his artistic work, focusing on the cultural, aesthetic, and creative implications of emerging technologies. He regularly participates in research projects, interdisciplinary collaborations, and workshops that bridge artistic production with experimental and academic inquiry.

His work has been presented in exhibitions and festivals in Greece and internationally, including the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens (EMST), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the Benaki Museum, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Centre, the Teloglion Arts Foundation, the XV Biennale de la Méditerranée Symbiosis? (Thessaloniki – Rome), the Thessaloniki Architecture Center, ONED Art / Experimental Film Festival (Beijing – Toulouse), and the Artiade Olympics of Art (New York).

He lives and works in Athens as an independent New Media Artist.
